Prominent ear syndrome is a case about which people has been complaining recently. While prominent ear syndrome is present at birth for some people, it is an abnormal protruding condition of ear caused by deformations occurring later for some other people. Through advanced technology, it is possible to correct this condition by plastic surgery.
In our country, people mostly wait to be 18 years old in order to have otoplasty, but this is unnecessary. External ears (pinna) complete its development more rapid than other organs in the body.
For example; a 3-year-old child completes its ear development by 85% and a ten-year-old child completes this development by 95%. Therefore, age factor is not important in this surgery. According to the researches made previously, it was revealed that no problem was seen later in prominent ear surgeries (otoplasty) made between 3-5 years old. Contrary to this, unless children do not have this surgery, it will be more difficult to avoid a psychological problem which may arise in their ages ahead as there is social pressure or joking matter is in question. In this surgery, a small incision at Surgery Istanbul is made on the back surface of the ear.
And then by entering through here, cartilage tissue is shaped. It is fixed by non-removable sutures in order that cartilage tissue cannot be deformed. You should not carry heavy loads for 1-3 weeks after surgery. In this period, it is forbidden to do exercises that force the body. Dressing will be on your ear for 2-3 days and then if your sutures are removable, they are removed within 1 week. Within this period, your external ear will be swelling and red colored for almost 2-3 weeks. The results can be seen completely after about 4 weeks. Within these 4 weeks, using sport bandage during sleep can partly avoid the folding of ear.

Will I have to stay overnight at the hospital?

Included in your package is 1 overnight stay at the hospital. Although we recommend that you do stay at the hospital for observations, you will be free to discharge yourself as soon as you feel fit.

Can I bring somebody with along with me?

It is advisable that you bring somebody along with you to in order to assist you during your recovery. Your accommodation will sleep 4 (2 sharing a bed and 2 sharing a sofa bed) and you will be given a duplex room at the hospital to sleep your guest. If it arises that you are unable to bring somebody along with you, a member of staff will be appointed to periodically check in on you and assist you where needed.

Will I have any scars?

This really depends on what type of nose reshaping you are interested in. There are different types of nose reshaping and most of the incisions are made inside the nostrils meaning the scars will not be visible. However tip reshaping, reshaping of the lower part of the nose, will involve a small cut on the skin between the nostrils. This will only leave a small visible scar.

When will I be able to return home?

As recommended by our surgeon, our package will include 7 nights accommodation, in most cases this will be sufficient recovery time for it to be safe and comfortable for you to return home. Should you not deem yourself ready to return, Surgery İstanbul will be happy to arrange further accommodation at an extra cost, any change of flights will need to be arranged by you.

Will I see the surgeon before I return home?

You will be seen by the surgeon at least once before your return home, usually twice. A pre-operative appointment will be required after the 6th day of surgery to change any necessary bandaging, remove splints and assess your recovery prior to your return home.

When can I return to work?

Most patients can return to desk or office work 2 weeks after surgery, however it really does depend on the individual and type of work. You should avoid strenuous activity for 2-3 weeks any contact sport for 6 weeks.

Can I contact you after I have returned home?

Surgery İstanbul will be always be available for your help and advice even after your return home. We are in constant contact with our surgeons and will be happy to contact them with your queries on your behalf. Should you wish to return for a follow up appointment we will be happy to arrange this for you. If agreed we will periodically contact you after you have returned home in order to check the progress of your recovery.

Will I need insurance?

Whilst your are in the care of the hospital you will be covered by their own insurance as well as the surgeon’s, however it is recommended that you take out further relevant travel insurance and advise them the nature of your trip.
